Nicole Fillion-Robin, LAc, MAcOM, Dipl. OMAre you feeling the stress from upcoming holiday travel, maybe dreading interacting with that least favorite family member in the next couple of weeks? This has come up a lot in interactions with patients and (especially female) friends this week. Here is some wisdom from a fellow helper. This holiday season, try NOT HELPING! Check in with yourself before you jump in to help with tasks. Do you really WANT to pack your family's bags? What extra things can you cut out of your to do list so you can simply enjoy being in the company of loved ones? What responsibility can you hand back to someone who is more than capable of managing their own things?
Leave space for others to jump in, and you might just be surprised what happens. (Extra credit: why are you doing the nice things that you are doing? Will you feel resentful if no one thanks you for them?). Comments are closed.
